Periodontal Care

If your gums bleed when you brush, or they appear red and swollen, you may have gum disease. In its early stage, called gingivitis, we can treat, eradicate, and reverse gum disease with periodontal therapy. Left untreated, it can cause serious damage, like tooth loss, and may put your overall health and well-being at risk.

To maximize your oral health, our caring hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth, then educate you on efficient brushing and flossing to reduce plaque buildup between professional cleanings.

If our hygienist finds signs of gum disease, she may recommend  periodontal therapy. This can include scaling, or gentle scraping of the affected tooth surfaces, and/or root planing, which involves smoothing tooth roots. To battle infection, our hygienist may apply a topical antibiotic. Periodontal therapy, combined with an effective homecare routine, can eliminate gum disease and restore health to your soft tissues.

If you have questions about periodontal therapy or believe you may have gum disease, call Dr. Altizer's office today for an appointment. Our patients come from all over the Cleveland area, including North Royalton and Hinckley.
